Every place I go, even speaking engagements like in a recent University in the Bay Area, people
ask me about Cuba. Mostly, what do you think is going to happen after Fidel? I could give you many answers. However, my honest
opinion is very clear, very simple. Fidel Castro could be dead and nobody has been told in Cuba. Cuba is an island of 11 million
people. When I left in 1961 the population of the largest island in the Caribbean was around 6 million people. Raúl
Castro, Fidel Castro's brother is in charge as "President". Nobody elected him or his brother, but the Cuban
Communist Party, the party that rules over all the Cubans in the island. He has said to have started to make some changes,
like for instance, the Cuban government has just given the approval to the people of Cuba to the use of Cell Phones. Yes,
nobody was permitted to own a cell phone in Cuba. Soon, they will be able to use computers. But Cuba will not really change,
until there is a totally and complete different system of government with no-Castro's around, where there can be a Constitution
and Cuban can be free to express whatever is on their minds. Saying anything against the Cuban government in Cuba, or burning
the Cuban flag in Cuba, will land you in jail. Amnesty International listed Cuba as one of the biggest human
rights violators in the world. It is fine to have cell phones and computers, but if you cannot say or write what you want
you are STILL NOT FREE.
Cuba must be free before we can say, that there has been a real change.

Todos los lugares que visito, especialmente recientemente, como en una ocasión cuando me tocó visitar una
Universidad del Area de la Bahía para hablar frente a una clase de estudiantes, una de las preguntas más comunes
es: ¿Qué pasará en Cuba despues de Fidel Castro? Le pudiera ofrecer varias respuestas. Pero siendo honesto.
Fidel Castro puede estar muerto pero no le han informado al pueblo Cubano. Cuba es una isla de 11 millones de habitantes.
Cuando yo salí de Cuba en 1961, la isla tenía una población alrededor de los 6 millones de habitantes.
Raúl Castro, hermano de Fidel Castro es ahora el "Presidente"de Cuba. Nadie nuncá eligió a
Raúl ó a su hermano Fidel. Fue el Partido Comunista de Cuba que elige y dicta sobre el pueblo Cubano. Raúl
Castro, se ha dicho, ha iniciado hacer cambios en Cuba. Por ejemplo, ahora se les permite a los Cubanos tener teléfonos
celulares. Asi es, previamente nadie podía tener un teléfono celular en la isla. Pronto tendrán derecho
a usar computadoras.
Pero Cuba no cambiará de verdad hasta que no tengan un completamente nuevo sistema de gobierno,
sin los hermanos Castros, donde exista una Constitución y todos los Cubanos puedan ofrecer sus opiniones sin miedo.
El decir algo contra el gobierno Cubano, el quemar la bandera Cubana lo pone inmediatamente en la cárcel.
La organización
Amnistía Internacional tiene a Cuba clasificado como uno de los países con más violaciones de derechos
humanos en todo el mundo. De que vale el tener derecho a usar teléfonos celulares y computadoras, si usted no puede
decir ó escribir lo que usted piensa, usted NO ES LIBRE.
Cuba primero tendrá que ser libre, antes
de que podramos decir que si se han realizado cambios.
